So how do studies in oral performance concern students of Scripture, which, by definition, refers to a written document—a text that was recorded and repeatedly reproduced in some form of print medium? What are the implications of the claim that this text, in its earliest settings, would have been experienced by most people as oral performance? To what extent is the same thing true today?
