Biblical Performances Today
3 years 2 weeks ago #21
I am not sure if this subject belongs, or even if it is at all appropriate. If not perhaps someone can tell me if there is a site where I can go. I am a retired UCC pastor. I have been doing dramatic performances in churches for the last two years. They are about 20 minutes long to abide with the typical sermon time. My persona is "Enock, the Shepherd" with a costume and staff, and repertoire of five stories. I am taking a biblical story and using my creative imagination to enlarge upon it. I'm doing more than memorizing a biblical story/text and repeating it dramatically. What I would like to do is discuss what I am doing and how I am doing it with others. There are all kinds of issues. What is effective delivery? How we develop report with the congregation? How can the performance be evaluated? How do we make sure we stay true to the text while being creative? What insights can we gain from Ignatian spirituality which makes much of a creative approach to biblical texts? I draw out what I see is the lesson of the story/text, and I do this from an admittedly Christocentric position. How to deal with the bias we inevitably have as we tell any story including those from the bible needs to be honestly dealt with. There are lots of subjects to handle. I would appreciate any discussion and links to any relevant sources
